HIRE Act sent to the President for approval
After a long battle and many back and forth political maneuvers, the US Congress has approved the HIRE Act (jobs bill). The bill restores almost $20 billion in lost interest earnings since 1998 to the highway and transit trust fund. Also, fuel tax exemptions that historically penalized the highway trust fund now will be taken out of the general fund. Further and most important is the authorization of highway and transit programs through the remainder of this year providing stability in the market for this construction year.
